Ohio: Dozens protest Target bathroom policy with Daubenmire

Nearly 40 people gathered Wednesday evening at the Target in Heath to protest against the company’s transgender bathroom policy.

Local minister and football coach Dave Daubenmire led the protest after holding a smaller one Tuesday morning at the same store before being asked to leave by Target staff.

“This protest isn’t about being discriminatory towards transgender people, it’s about protecting women and children from any man who might just walk into the bathroom,” he said. “There’s nothing stopping a man from walking into a women’s bathroom because he says he is a woman.”

Target publicly stated its position last week that transgender people may use the bathroom of the gender they identify with, a policy spokeswoman Molly Snyder says has been in place for several years.

The announcement led to a petition that quickly gained momentum as hundreds of thousands of people pledged to boycott Target over the policy.

Daubenmire said he is focusing on the privacy of women, not the sexual predators who would abuse the policy.
